Speech and Language Therapy
The Speech and Language Therapy department at St John’s follows the philosophy that hearing impaired children have the potential to develop good spoken language if given consistent and suitable amplification within an appropriate language environment.
Our Speech and Language sessions start from the premise that spoken language develops from child centred interactive conversation and that speech does not exist in isolation but as a vehicle to carry meaningful language.
Experienced Therapists
Through our team of 5 experienced Speech and Language Therapists we aim to provide an excellent level of Speech and Language therapy to every child who requires it. This may be in the form of three 15 minute individual sessions, through group speech sessions or through functional language groups for pupils in years 10,11 and Post 16.
The Therapists aim to help each child reach his/her potential for spoken language by developing the skills of conversation, listening, lip reading, social awareness, empathy towards other speakers as well as giving strategies to help the other speaker/listener.
