lesson time!St John’s School offers part-time placement to hearing impaired children in the academic year in which they are 3 years old and full time placement at the beginning of the year in which they are 4 years old.

For children who need time to adjust to the routines and demands of a school week, plus travelling time, their introduction to full time attendance can be staggered as appropriate.

Confidence through Experience and Guidance

Within St John’s we acknowledge that children’s experiences and relationships in their early years have a vital effect on their later academic, social and emotional development.

Support for Better Development
For a young hearing impaired child, who needs so much input in order to develop speech, language and communication skills, we believe it is particularly important to provide an appropriate environment in which each child is given the requisite guidance, assistance and support for his or her growth in all areas of development.

More Confidence Later On
Opportunities for learning that are taken with pre-school hearing impaired children can help them to progress through their subsequent years in and out of school more competently and confidently.

At St John’s we aim to:

introduce the children to school life in an enjoyable and positive way;

to make listening and language learning an integral part of each child’s experiences and action throughout the school day;

to build upon the experiences and levels of learning that each child begins school with;

to provide a broad, stimulating and meaningful curriculum, appropriate for each child’s learning and interest level;

to recognise and develop the potential of each child in all aspects of the curriculum;

to lay foundations which can be built upon when the children are subsequently required to follow the National Curriculum programmes of study;

to involve the children as much as active participants in all learning / play situations;

to establish a partnership between home and school that supports and promotes the children’s development;

to provide a happy and secure environment which helps the children to grow in confidence and encourages independence;

to foster each child’s appreciation of his / her own self worth and the value of others
