Careers and Work Experience
All pupils in years 9, 10 and 11 have a careers lesson every week and in years 10 and 11 pupils have a week of work experience. The careers programme prepares pupils for the choices they face at the end of year 11 i.e. employment, work based learning or college. Work experience placements can either be arranged by parents, close to their home or through the school’s work experience co-ordinator who has contacts within a small number of companies in and around Boston Spa.
School Trips
Visits out of school and school trips are an important part of the school curriculum. The Ski Trip to Italy for year 9 pupils each year is always very popular and even pupils who have never worn skis before achieve great success on the slopes. Similarly the School Leavers Trip to France is always greatly anticipated by year 11 and helps to sustain them through a very busy exam year.
Sport
Pupils take part in a variety of sports throughout the school year and compete regularly in competitions around the country. This year pupils in year 8 have been introduced to archery and many have shown great skill in this new sport. Each year pupils in years 7 and 8 take part in the 2 day Activity Challenge which gives them the opportunity to try a number of outdoor pursuits. In April older secondary pupils take part in the Kielder Challenge where they join pupils from local mainstream high schools and work together in mixed teams on a range of outdoor challenges |
