Mrs Barbara Auty is the Chair of Governors. Barbara’s professional life involves working in Human Resources Management and was a senior manager in a national children’s charity. As a parent of young people with special educational needs, Barbara has a great deal of understanding in this field and sits on SENDIST tribunals. Barbara chairs the Care committee and is a member of the Human Resources and Teaching and Learning committees.
Reverend David Arblaster is the Vice Chair of Governors and the Governor responsible for Safeguarding. David is a deacon in St Aeldred’s Church, Harrogate and works with the parish priest to support the spiritual and pastoral care of his parishioners. He was the director of student services at Leeds Met University for 9 years until his recent early retirement. David is chair of the Human Resources committee and member of the Care committee.
Mr Terry Forbes is a foundation governor. Terry ran his own successful business for many years and is a Trustee of the Diocese of Leeds. Terry is a member of the Governors’ Finance Committee and is our link with senior officials at the Diocese.
Mr Vince McNicholas is a foundation governor. Vince’s professional life has included working for the Diocese of Leeds as a teacher for 25 years. In 2008 Vince became a full-time student of Architectural Technology. Vince is a member of the Teaching and Learning and Health and Safety committees.
Mrs Jill Tarr is a foundation governor. Jill is a retired teacher who taught at King James School Knaresborough for over 30 years, teaching humanities. In her spare time Jill volunteers for a local charity (WISE). Jill enjoys cycling and plays tennis regularly. Jill is a member of the Teaching and Learning Committee.
Mrs Clare Brooks is a Foundation Governor. Clare has previous experience as Chair of Governors at a local primary school. She is keen to embrace the schools ethos and looks forward to learning about and growing with this vibrant education establishment. In her professional life, Clare is a family law barrister working in Leeds with a specialist practice in child protection. Clare is a member of the Finance and General Purpose Committee.
Mr Andrew Morley is a Foundation Governor. Andrew is a member of the Finance and General Purpose Committee
Mrs Norma Harrington is a Local Authority Governor appointed by Leeds City Council. Norma’s professional life has involved working for the prison service for 23 years, taking early retirement as Governor of Wealstun Prison in 2011. She has served on Wetherby Town Council since 2012, serving as Town Mayor from 2016-2018. Norma is also a trustee of two local charities, and vice chair of Better Wetherby Partnership. Norma was elected to Leeds City Council in May 2018 and is a Ward Councillor for Wetherby Ward, serving a number of local villages. Norma is a member of the Human Resources and Student Care Committees.
Mr Geoff Riley is a parent governor. His commitment to our school is rooted in his experience of having a daughter who attended St John’s. Geoff was a senior lecturer in a very large FE college before taking early retirement. He is a member of the Premises, Grounds and Health and Safety and Human Resources and Care Committees.
Mrs Mary McAleer is a teacher governor. Mary has been a teacher at St John’s for 30 years teaching maths and language work and is a member of the Teaching and Learning and Health and Safety Committees.
Mrs Jackie Peacock is a staff governor. Jackie works in the school office. She prepares and distributes the termly newsletter and manages correspondence with parents and LAs. Jackie is a member of the Premises, Grounds and Health & Safety committee.
